La Alhambra is a famous palace and fortress which sits atop a hill in Granada, Spain. It is well-known for its impressive Islamic architecture, which reflects the region's Islamic and Moorish history. There has been a fortress on the site since the 9th century, but most of the current architecture was built sometime between the 11th and 16th centuries.

The palace was the political center of the Kingdom of Granada, a Muslim nation, until 1492, when the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella and Ferdinand, reconquered the territory as part of their effort to unite Spain as a single Christian country. Afterwards, new buildings were constructed at the Alhambra that featured Christian architectural styles.
